China Upset with Charlottesville, Virginia

On Friday, Phayul.com published the story that the city council of {en:Charlottesville, Virginia} had voted unanimously to fly the {en:flag of Tibet} over city hall on March 10, to commemorate Tibetan Uprising Day.
Today, Phayul reports that China is upset about this decision, and has expressed its displeasure in an e-mail sent to the council:
The action taken by City Council not only interferes in China’s internal affairs, but also departs from the established policy of the U.S government against the Tibetan independence.”
Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris says the request from the Chinese government has been noted, but as of now the Tibetan flag will fly: “Council was unanimous in our desire to express our symbolic solidarity with the people of Tibet.”
Am I the only one who find’s China’s incessant whining about interference in their internal affairs ironic? China’s written the damned book on interference in internal affairs with their constant pressure on various world governments to ban the Dalai Lama. This e-mail to the Charlottesville government is, itself, an attempt to interfere with that city’s internal affairs.
Three cheers to Charlottesville, one of America’s most beautiful cities, and now one of its most enlightened. Here’s hoping that their example will spark other examples of such peaceful “interference” with China’s continued abuses.
